Vienna biggest museums are all located right next to each other. It's a blessing and a curse.. when traveling with children your pace is slower so you can't expect to do more than 2 museums a day and that's quite hard to do. But the proximity of the museums makes it easier to do..
We started out at the Vienna art museum, also known as Kunsthistorisches Museum.
As you walk through these impressive doors..
You enter a magnificent hall which leads you to marvelous rooms filled with treasures to explore..
The Egyptian collection with mummies was especially impressive for our kids.
Art museums can be hard to visit with children. We found that by playing imagination games we can help our children appreciate the art in a fun way. You can help characters in drawings find lost items in different pictures, you can do a competition of finding beautiful objects by color. But all in all, when visiting an art museum with kids do it early in the day when you all have your strength.
After one museum we headed next door to an identical building house of Vienna's Natural History Museum.
Having been in the Natural History Museums in London and New York we came with little expectations but were greatly surprised with the beautiful collections on display.
My 8 years old son ran excitedly from animal to animal asking for more to see - and from Dinosaurs to mammoths, birds and reptiles, bears, Giraffes and more - there was plenty to see and do.
All in all it was a wonderful day but a tiring one..
Here is a map of the museum area.. have fun!
