Located north of the black forest region, Heidelberg is right on the Rhine. Heidelberg is a popular tourist destination due to its romantic and picturesque cityscape, including Heidelberg Castle and the baroque style Old Town.
A steep cable car connects the castle to the Old Town - so a fun way to tour the city is to head up to the castle with your car. Park and tour the castle and then take the cable car down for a stroll in the Old City and lunch in one of the popular city squares.
The views from the high castle are amazing. You can see how its location allowed control of the region in past years. This is what you see from the balcony of the castle.
There is a small pharmacy museum which my kids enjoyed and you can see the biggest wine barrel in the world which is quite impressive.
After touring the castle we headed down in the steep cable car - that was some ride..
And to sum up a fabulous day we had lunch in the beautiful old town square..
Have fun visiting Heidelberg..
