Salzburg is like a candy store.. its small, colorful and sweet. Located about 3 hours drive from Vienna, it's a must stop on your visit to Austria.
We parked outside of Salzburg and took the bus to old town center. Parking is scarce in the old town region and it seems easier this way. All was well, except we got off at the wrong bus stop and walked another 20 minutes or so until we reached the area.
We were tired after driving from Vienna and a bit cranky, but the walk along the river did wonders.
You can't escape the Mozart experience in Salzburg, there are a few Mozart related houses in the main street of Salzburg. The whole theme of the beautifully resotred main street is a Mozart era theme - see the McDonald's sign below.
There are several Mozart museums in Salzburg but we decided to visit Mozart's birthplace at Getreidegasse 9. It's a bit crowded as can be expected but it's very informative and since Mozart was a kid at that house, kids find it easier to relate to.
After the visit to Mozart's house we strolled the beautiful street and enjoyed the artistic window displays.
Plenty more to do in Salzburg and in the beautiful Alps region close by.. Will be writing about those soon..
